The following are a series of words and images that show how Jane installed her Rotaloo;
My land is South of Adelaide. I have built a stone cottage using stone from the land. There is no power on the land, so I have had to use other means to ensure that my Rota Loo works properly. Thus far, coming up for the 2nd summer, it has worked like a dream.
This room was added on to the bathroom. I worked with a builder to pour the slab for the room but the rest of the construction, including glass work, doors etc, is all my own work.
Here I am with the chamber in place and checking that everything will be in the right place. The floor level for the toilet will be one step above the bathroom floor level to accommodate the chamber under the floor.
The structure is almost complete - the floor is in and the chamber is in place
This picture shows the end result. The wall with the stained glass window faces North, the adjacent wall with the Western Red Cedar cladding faces East. I have used a high quality vent (at the top of the photo) to assist in drawing air through the chamber.
This picture shows the bottom of the Northern side of the room. The glass captures heat and light, warming the chamber space.
Similarly, this picture shows the use of glass on the Eastern side. These doors open and provide access to the bins.
